- 1 pound ham hocks
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 cup maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons prepared mustard

Begin by placing a large pot over extremely high heat, then add the beans and sufficient water to cover them completely. Bring this mixture to a rolling boil for 10 minutes, after which remove the pot from the heat source and let it sit undisturbed for 1 hour. Next, carefully pour off the water from the beans and transfer them to a slow cooker. Add the ham hocks, chopped onion, brown sugar, maple syrup, salt, and water to the slow cooker. Combine these ingredients thoroughly, cover the top of the slow cooker, and set it to cook on high for 4 to 5 hours, stirring occasionally throughout the cooking process. About an hour before the end of the cooking time, add the ketchup and mustard to the slow cooker, then remove the ham from the hocks and discard them. Finally, thoroughly mix all the ingredients together before serving
