Ingredients
- 2 pounds fresh green beans, rinsed and trimmed
- 3 ham hocks
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1 1/2 pounds new potatoes, quartered
- 1 tablespoon chicken bouillon granules
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon seasoning salt
- ground black pepper to taste
Instructions
1
Acquire the necessary ingredients and prepare them for cooking.
2
If your green beans are particularly large, cut them in half to facilitate their placement in the slow cooker. Fill the slow cooker with water, making sure it's just enough to cover the green beans and other ingredients. Add diced ham hocks and an onion to the slow cooker, ensuring they're fully submerged in the liquid. Close the lid and initiate high-heat cooking until you notice a gentle simmering motion. Gradually decrease the heat to low and continue cooking for 2-3 hours, or until the green beans reach your desired level of crispiness.
3
Once you've removed the ham hocks from the slow cooker, add diced potatoes to the pot and continue cooking on low for an additional 45 minutes.
4
In the meantime, carefully extract the ham meat from its bones and chop or shred it into smaller pieces. Return these chopped ham pieces to the slow cooker, where you'll also add a few seasonings - bouillon, garlic powder, onion powder, seasoning salt, and pepper.
5
Finally, use a slotted spoon to transfer the cooked green beans, potatoes, and ham into a serving dish, reserving some of the broth for added flavor.
