Ingredients
  • 1 pound dried pinto beans, soaked overnight
  • 1 pound Black Forest ham, cubed
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3/4 medium green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 medium celery ribs, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano, or to taste
  • 1 tablespoon lard
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin, or to taste

  • 5 cups chicken broth, or as needed to cover
Instructions
1
Soak pinto beans in a large container for an extended period, typically 8 hours or overnight.
2
Gather and prepare all the necessary components.
3

4
Pour in enough chicken broth to completely submerge all the ingredients.
5
Place the slow cooker on High heat and cook until the pinto beans are extremely tender, requiring 5 to 6 hours of continuous cooking.
