- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 8 cups water, or as needed

Combine the beans, diced ham, brown sugar, onion powder, chopped parsley, garlic salt, black pepper, and a pinch of cayenne pepper in the slow cooker. Add sufficient water to the container so that the ingredients are almost submerged, leaving a small gap of about 2 inches. Close the lid and cook on Low for an extended period, stirring periodically, for a total of 12 hours.
