Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3 eggs
- 12 ounces Italian-seasoned bread crumbs
- 6 skinless, boneless chicken breasts
- 6 tablespoons butter, divided, or more to taste
- 2 (24 ounce) jars marinara sauce, or more to taste
- 12 slices mozzarella cheese
- 1 (3 ounce) package Parmesan cheese
- 2 tablespoons oregano
- 2 tablespoons basil
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
Instructions
1
Prepare a shallow dish by sprinkling flour evenly across its surface. In another bowl, whisk eggs together until well combined. Place bread crumbs in a separate shallow dish.
2
Dip chicken breasts into the flour, coating them lightly, then proceed to coat them in eggs and finally roll them around in bread crumbs to achieve an even covering.
3
Heat 2 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Once melted, fry the breaded chicken breasts, 2 at a time, until they turn golden brown. This should take around 4 to 6 minutes per side. Transfer the cooked chicken breasts to a plate and repeat the process with the remaining butter and chicken breasts.
4
Layer the breaded chicken breasts in a slow cooker, ensuring each layer is covered with marinara sauce. Allow the flavors to meld together over a period of 2 1/2 to 3 hours, as the slow cooker cooks on low.
5
Preheat your oven to a temperature of 325 degrees F (165 degrees C).
6
Arrange the chicken breasts side-by-side in a baking dish and spoon additional marinara sauce over each piece of chicken. Place 2 slices of mozzarella cheese on top of each chicken breast and sprinkle Parmesan cheese, dried oregano, fresh basil, and garlic powder over the entire surface.
7
Place the prepared chicken breasts in the preheated oven and bake until the cheese is melted, approximately 10 minutes.
