Ingredients
- 6 beef short ribs, or more to taste
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/2 cup vegetable broth
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 5 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon finely grated ginger
- 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon potato starch
- 2 tablespoons cold water
- 2 green onion tops, thinly sliced
Instructions
1
Preheat your kitchen by sprinkling salt and pepper over the short ribs, coating them evenly on both sides.
2
Heat a generous amount of olive oil and sesame oil in a large cooking vessel over medium-high heat, carefully placing the short ribs inside in batches until they are nicely browned on all sides, taking around 5 to 8 minutes.
3
Transfer the short ribs to a slow cooker for further cooking.
4
Combine soy sauce, vegetable broth, rice vinegar, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, and crushed red pepper flakes in a bowl to create the sauce.
5
Pour the prepared sauce over the short ribs, making sure they are fully coated. Cover the slow cooker and let it cook on High for approximately 4 hours, or until the ribs are tender.
6
Once cooked, remove the short ribs from the sauce and keep them warm by placing them in a safe location.
7
Transfer the sauce to another pot, reducing heat to medium-low and letting it simmer until reduced, taking about 5 minutes. Strain as much grease as possible from the sauce.
8
Mix cornstarch and water together in a small bowl until it forms a smooth consistency. Pour the mixture into the sauce and cook until thickened, taking around 1 to 3 minutes.
9
Finally, pour the prepared sauce over the short ribs and sprinkle sliced green onions on top for garnish
