Slow Cooker Beef Neck Bones with Gravy
Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 pounds beef neck bones, or more to taste
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, divided
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 onion, sliced into long pieces
Instructions
1
Preheat the slow cooker to its highest temperature setting.
2
Rinse neck bones and discard any excess fat, then proceed to season them with a blend of spices including cumin, allspice, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and salt; lightly coat with 1/4 cup of flour.
3
Heat a generous amount of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat, then sauté minced garlic until it becomes fragrant, approximately 1 to 2 minutes. Increase the heat to medium-high and add seasoned neck bones; cook until they start to develop a rich brown color, about 1 minute per side.
4
Transfer the seasoned neck bones and their savory juices to the preheated slow cooker; add a rich beef broth and sautéed onion.
5
Cook on the highest temperature setting for 1 hour. Then, reduce the heat to a lower setting and cook for 4 to 6 hours.
6
Transfer the neck bones to a serving dish. Sprinkle any remaining flour into the slow cooker and stir it in thoroughly. Return the neck bones to the slow cooker, allowing them to simmer until a rich gravy thickens, approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
