Slow Cooker Apple Crumble
Ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, cut into pieces
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1/3 cup white sugar, or to taste
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 6 cups apples - peeled, cored and chopped
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
Instructions
1
To prepare the crunchy mixture: Combine flour, brown sugar, white sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt in a bowl. Add the butter and use your fingers or a fork to blend until you achieve a rough, crumbly texture. Introduce the chopped walnuts into the mixture and stir until they're evenly distributed.
2
To create the sweet apple filling: In a small bowl, blend together sugar, cornstarch, ginger, and cinnamon until well combined.
3
Place the sliced apples in a slow cooker. Pour the cornstarch mixture over the apples and add a squeeze of lemon juice, mixing everything together until the apples are evenly coated. Sprinkle the crunchy mixture over the top of the apples, covering them completely. Close the lid and cook on Low for 4 hours or High for 2 hours, depending on your desired level of tenderization.
4
Once the slow cooker is turned off, partially lift the lid to allow excess steam to escape. Let it sit for about an hour, allowing the crunchy topping to harden and set.
