Slow-Cooked Spicy Black Bean Soup
Ingredients
  • 1 pound dry black beans, soaked overnight
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 4 teaspoons diced jalapeno peppers
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
Instructions
1
Begin by thoroughly draining the black beans and then give them a good rinse under cold running water. Next, transfer the rinsed black beans to a slow cooker.
2
Add a sufficient amount of chicken broth to the slow cooker, taking care not to overflow it. Then, chop or slice the jalapeño peppers and add them to the slow cooker as well.
3
Sprinkle a blend of spices over the black beans, including chili powder, cumin, cayenne pepper, black pepper, garlic powder, and hot pepper sauce.
4
Place the slow cooker on High heat and cook for 4 hours. After completing this initial cooking period, reduce the heat to Low and continue cooking for an additional 2 hours.
