Ingredients
- 1 (18 pound) whole turkey
- 8 cups prepared stuffing
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 1 1/2 quarts turkey stock, divided
Instructions
1
Gather all the necessary ingredients required for this recipe, making sure to have everything at hand before proceeding.
2
Preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit (165 degrees Celsius), ensuring it reaches the correct temperature before moving on to the next step.
3
Take out the turkey's neck and giblets, then rinse the entire bird under cold water to remove any impurities. Pat it dry with paper towels, placing the turkey breast-side up on a rack in a roasting pan.
4
Fill the turkey's cavity loosely with the prepared stuffing, taking care not to overfill it. Rub the skin of the turkey generously with butter, followed by a seasoning of salt and pepper to taste.
5
Pour 2 cups of turkey stock into the roasting pan, making sure not to overfill it. Cover the turkey loosely with aluminum foil and roast in the oven for 2 1/2 hours, basting it every 30 minutes with the pan juices that accumulate.
6
As the drippings evaporate, add more turkey stock to the pan in small increments, 1 to 2 cups at a time. Remove the foil and continue roasting until a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit (75 degrees Celsius), requiring about 1 1/2 hours more.
7
Transfer the roasted turkey to a large serving platter, allowing it to rest for 20 to 30 minutes before carving.
8
Serve the turkey hot, and enjoy your delicious meal!
