Simple Russian Mushroom Casserole
Ingredients
  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil, divided
  • 7 cups quartered button mushrooms
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 1/4 cups shredded Gouda cheese
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to a high temperature of 425 degrees Fahrenheit (220 degrees Celsius).
2
In a small pan, warm 2 tablespoons of oil over a moderate heat source. Boost the heat to its maximum level and introduce sliced mushrooms, stirring occasionally until they achieve a golden hue, approximately 6 to 8 minutes. Be cautious not to overcook the mushrooms, as this can cause them to release excessive moisture.
3
Pour the remaining 2 tablespoons of oil into another pan, set it over a moderate heat source, and cook diced onions until they become soft and translucent, roughly 4 to 6 minutes. Transfer the cooked onions to a separate pan with the mushrooms and sprinkle with salt, pepper, and shredded Gouda cheese.
4
Place the prepared mixture in a baking dish and bake it in your preheated oven until the cheese is melted, golden brown, and reaches a satisfying doneness, usually within 15 to 20 minutes.
