Ingredients
- 1 cup soy sauce
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 5 cloves garlic, chopped
- 3 green onions, chopped
- 2 tablespoons Asian (toasted) sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
- 2 pounds Korean-style short ribs (beef chuck flanken, cut 1/3 to 1/2 inch thick across bones)
Instructions
1
Combine the soy sauce and sugar in a container until the sugar has fully incorporated, stirring constantly to ensure it dissolves. Add the black pepper, garlic, green onions, sesame oil, and sesame seeds to the mixture, stirring until well combined.
2
Place the ribs in a spacious container, and pour the marinade over them. Mix to ensure the ribs are evenly coated with the marinade, then refrigerate for 1 hour. After an additional hour of refrigeration, mix the ribs and marinade once more, before returning them to the refrigerator.
3
Heat up an outdoor grill to medium-high temperatures, and lightly grease the grill surface with oil.
4
Take the ribs out of the marinade, discard the leftover marinade, and grill the ribs over medium-high heat until they reach a brown color on both sides and are no longer pink in the center, approximately 5 minutes per side. Keep a spray bottle of water nearby to combat any flare-ups that may occur during the grilling process.
