Ingredients
- 2/3 cup butter
- 2 cups quick-cooking oats
- 1 cup white sugar
- 2/3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup corn syrup
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips (such as NestleĀ® Toll HouseĀ®)
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to a high temperature of 375 degrees Fahrenheit (or 190 degrees Celsius, if you prefer). To prevent any mess, cover two baking trays with a layer of aluminum foil to make cleanup easier.
2
In a large cooking vessel, melt butter over medium heat. Once the butter has melted, remove it from the heat source and combine it with rolled oats, granulated sugar, all-purpose flour, corn syrup, milk, vanilla extract, and salt in a bowl. Use a spoon or whisk to mix all the ingredients until they are fully incorporated.
3
Scoop out small amounts of the mixture, about the size of a level teaspoon, and place them 3 inches apart on the prepared baking trays. Use a flexible spatula to spread out the cookies thinly.
4
Place the cookies in the oven and bake until they are golden brown, taking around 5 to 7 minutes. Allow them to cool on the trays.
5
Simultaneously, place chocolate chips in a heat-proof container placed over simmering water. Stir the mixture frequently to prevent it from burning, scraping down the sides of the container with a flexible spatula as needed. Continue stirring until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth, taking about 5 minutes.
6
Remove the foil from the cooled cookies. Spread a layer of melted chocolate on half of the cookies, followed by topping them with the remaining cookies.
