Ingredients
- 1 (3 pound) whole chicken
- 1 large onion, halved - unpeeled
- 3 carrots, cut into chunks - unpeeled
- 2 stalks celery, cut into chunks
- 1 tablespoon whole peppercorns

Collect and prepare all necessary components.

Put the chicken in a substantial container with sliced onion, chopped carrots, diced celery, and whole peppercorns; fill the container with water to a depth of one inch.

Seal the container and initiate boiling; decrease heat to a low simmer and cook until the meat becomes tender and falls apart easily, approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Take the chicken out of the container and allow it to rest until cool enough to handle comfortably.
