  • 3/4 cup white sugar, or more to taste
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 6 cups thinly sliced apples
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Collect all the necessary ingredients and heat your oven to 450 degrees Fahrenheit (230 degrees Celsius).

Place one pastry crust at the bottom of a 9-inch pie dish and set the second one aside for now.

Mix together three-quarters cup of sugar and a pinch of cinnamon in a small bowl. If your apples are particularly tart, you may need to add a bit more sugar.

Alternate layers of sliced apples in the prepared pie dish, sprinkling each layer with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar.

Dot the top layer of apples with small pieces of butter. Cover this layer with the second pastry crust.

Place the pie on the lowest rack of your preheated oven and bake for 10 minutes. After this initial period, reduce the oven temperature to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius) and continue baking until the pie is golden brown and the filling bubbles, taking an additional 30 to 35 minutes.
