Signature Baklava with Walnuts

  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 (16 ounce) package phyllo dough
  • 5 tablespoons margarine
  • 5 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit, or 175 degrees Celsius. Next, take a 9x13-inch baking pan and grease it thoroughly to prevent sticking.

Cut the phyllo dough into the required size, then place half of the sheets at the bottom of the prepared pan. In a food processor or blender, grind 1/2 cup of walnuts with sugar and cinnamon until well combined.

Evenly spread the ground walnut mixture over the phyllo dough in the pan, making sure to cover it completely.

Place the remaining phyllo sheets on top of the walnut mixture, ensuring they are evenly stacked.

In a small saucepan or microwave-safe container, melt margarine with oil over low heat or in short intervals until smooth.
