Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil, or more as needed
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 5 sprigs parsley, stemmed and chopped
- 2 teaspoons tomato paste
- 2 teaspoons Portuguese hot pepper sauce (pimenta)
- 1 cube chicken bouillon
- 1 teaspoon ground paprika
- 1 (12 fluid ounce) can ale, divided
- 2 pounds unpeeled large shrimp, deveined
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
Instructions
1
Preheat your cooking surface by heating a generous amount of olive oil in a substantial skillet over an intermediate heat setting. Introduce the onion and garlic into the skillet, then engage in a stirring motion until they become tender and pliable, approximately 5 minutes have passed. Incorporate the fresh parsley, concentrated tomato paste, spicy hot pepper sauce, chicken broth powder, and paprika into the mix. Gradually pour half of the ale into the skillet, allowing it to meld with the other ingredients, which should take around 5 minutes.

Next, pour the remaining half of the ale into the skillet and introduce the shrimp. Add a pinch of salt to taste, then continue cooking until the shrimp has absorbed the liquid and turned pink in color, taking anywhere from 15 to 20 minutes.
