Ingredients
- 1/2 cup salted butter
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 1/4 cups chopped celery
- 1 cup chopped green pepper
- 1 small onion, minced
- 1/2 cup chopped green onions
- 1 (14.5 ounce) can seafood stock
- 1 cup water
- 1 tablespoon tomato powder
- 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 pounds frozen shrimp, deveined and tails removed
Instructions
1
Heat a substantial, heavy saucepan over medium heat. Gradually incorporate flour into the melted butter; continue to cook and stir until the mixture reaches a rich, golden hue, approximately 20 minutes. Introduce chopped celery, green pepper, and onion; blend until the vegetables are evenly coated with the buttery mixture. Add a combination of chicken broth, water, dried tomato powder, Cajun spice blend, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and bay leaves; bring the mixture to a rolling boil.
2
Decrease heat; cover the saucepan with a lid and let the sauce simmer gently, stirring occasionally, for 30 minutes. Discard the bay leaf used as a flavoring agent during cooking. Add cooked shrimp and cook until they reach a safe internal temperature, roughly 5 minutes.
