- 1/2 cup olive oil
- 2 pounds chopped okra
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 tomato, chopped
- 1 cup chopped onion
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup chopped celery
- 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
- 12 cups water
- 1/2 cup chopped green onions

Prepare the shrimp by sprinkling them with a pinch of salt, a few grinds of black pepper, and a dash of cayenne pepper to suit your taste. Set the shrimp aside momentarily.

Next, heat a generous amount of oil in a large cooking vessel over a medium heat setting. Add the okra and cook for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent scorching.

Subsequently, add the tomato paste, diced tomatoes, sautéed onion, minced garlic, chopped celery, and sliced green bell pepper to the pot. Continue cooking for an additional 15 minutes, stirring frequently.

Now, add a sufficient amount of water to the pot and season with salt and pepper according to your preference. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to a low setting and let it simmer for 45 minutes.

After the soup has finished simmering, add the prepared shrimp and continue to cook for an additional 20 minutes.
