Shredded Chicken Tacos with Mexican Flavors
Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 (1 ounce) packet taco seasoning mix
  • 2 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce
  • 2 teaspoons white distilled vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 2 teaspoons ground oregano
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 pounds skinless, boneless chicken breasts
  • 8 taco shells, warmed
Instructions
1
Combine water and seasoning blend in a large container to create the base of our dish. Next, add tomato sauce, vinegar, minced garlic, dried oregano, ground cumin, and sugar to the mixture. Ensure everything is well incorporated.
2
Heat a generous amount of oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook until it develops a golden brown color on both sides, taking approximately 5 minutes per side. Introduce the tomato sauce mixture into the pan and bring it to a rolling boil. Gradually reduce the heat to medium-low, cover the pan, and let it simmer until the chicken is no longer pink in the center and the juices flow freely, taking around 20 minutes. It's essential to verify that an instant-read thermometer inserted into the center reaches at least 165 degrees F (74 degrees C).
3
Once the chicken has cooled sufficiently to handle, remove it from the pan and shred the meat using two forks. Return the shredded chicken to the pan with the tomato sauce, stirring constantly until the chicken is evenly coated and the sauce has slightly reduced, taking about 5 minutes.
4
Transfer the chicken and sauce to a serving dish and spoon it onto taco shells.
