Savory Ground Beef Lo Mein
Ingredients
  • 6 ounces spaghetti
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon dry sherry
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 red bell pepper, cored and sliced vertically
  • 1 sweet onion, peeled and sliced vertically
  • 1 cup snow peas
  • 1 stalk celery, sliced
  • 2 teaspoons minced fresh ginger root
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 pinch red pepper flakes
  • 1 tablespoon thinly sliced green onion
Instructions
1
Begin by filling a large container with salted water and placing it on the stovetop to reach its boiling point.
2
Cook spaghetti in this boiling water, stirring periodically, until it reaches the desired level of doneness but still retains some firmness in the center, approximately 12 minutes.
3
Simultaneously, cook ground beef in a large pan over medium heat until it reaches a browned and crumbly state, but still retains some texture, roughly 5 minutes. Set the cooked ground beef aside.
4
In a separate, small bowl, combine hoisin sauce, soy sauce, oyster sauce, water, sherry, sesame oil, cornstarch, and brown sugar to create a smooth sauce.
5
Heat olive oil in the same pan over medium-high heat. Add red bell pepper, onion, snow peas, celery, ginger, garlic, and red pepper flakes. Stir-fry the vegetables until they become tender, approximately 5 minutes.
6
Return the cooked ground beef to the pan and mix it well with the vegetables.
7
Drain spaghetti and add it to the pan along with the sauce mixture. Cook and stir until the spaghetti is well combined with the sauce, allowing it to slightly thicken, roughly 3 minutes. Serve immediately and garnish with sliced green onions.
