Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon white sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/2 cups lukewarm water
- 2 cups oil for frying, or as needed
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, drained
- 1 (1.25 ounce) package chili seasoning mix
- 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
- 2 cups chopped iceberg lettuce
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 1 cup sour cream
Instructions
1
Combine the dry ingredients flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt in a large mixing container; incorporate water into the mixture until it forms a slightly sticky dough. Allow the dough to relax while the oil heats up.
2
Heat the oil in a deep frying vessel or large saucepan to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius).
3
Split the dough into six equal parts. Flatten each part into a round circular shape, roughly the size of your hand.
4
Fry the dough circles one at a time in hot oil until their bases are golden brown, approximately 2 minutes; flip them over and cook for an additional minute until the other side is also browned. Remove the fried dough from the oil and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess moisture.
5
Heat a skillet over medium heat. Cook and stir the ground beef in the hot skillet until it is browned and crumbly, around 5 to 7 minutes. Add kidney beans and chili seasoning to the skillet; cook until heated through, approximately 5 minutes.
6
Position each fried dough circle on a plate. Top each with a portion of the chili mixture, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and sour cream.
