Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1 cup distilled white vinegar
- 4 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon whole peppercorns
- 4 cloves garlic, crushed
- 2 tablespoons salt, or to taste
- 1 (2 to 3 pound) whole chicken, cut into pieces
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions

Combine a substantial amount of water with the vinegar, soy sauce, peppercorns, garlic and salt in a large cooking vessel. Stir everything together thoroughly before adding the chicken pieces to the mixture.

Simmer the entire combination over low heat, uncovered, for a considerable period of time until the chicken is fully cooked and tender, typically ranging between 25 to 35 minutes.

Take the cooked chicken out of the pot and sear it in oil within a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Return the chicken, along with its own juices and the reserved sauce, back into the pot. Cover it again and simmer over medium heat until the sauce reaches your preferred level of thickness.
