  • 1/4 cup margarine
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 3 tablespoons chopped onion
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

Firstly, preheat your oven to a high temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 175 degrees Celsius.

Next, insert the steamer basket into a saucepan and fill it with water, making sure the water level is below the bottom of the steamer. Then, bring the water to a rolling boil.

Now, add the broccoli to the steamer and cover it with a lid. Steam the broccoli for 2 to 4 minutes, or until it reaches your desired level of tenderness.

While the broccoli is steaming, melt some margarine in a saucepan over medium heat. Once melted, add the flour and mix it well with the margarine until you get a smooth paste.

Then, slowly pour in some milk while continuously stirring the mixture to prevent lumps from forming. Continue cooking the mixture over medium heat until it thickens, approximately 10 minutes.
