Savory Beef and Potato Burek
Ingredients
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon ground allspice
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
  • 1 medium potato, finely chopped
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 16 sheets phyllo dough, thawed
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to a high temperature of 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius).
2
Take a large skillet and heat it over medium heat, adding ground beef and stirring constantly until it is nicely browned and crumbly, taking around 5 to 7 minutes. Remove excess fat from the skillet.
3
Add a blend of spices, including allspice, paprika, salt, and pepper, to the skillet and stir well. Transfer the mixture to a large bowl and combine it with diced potato and onion.
4
Place two sheets of phyllo dough side by side on a flat surface. Spoon one-eighth of the beef mixture along one long edge of the phyllo stack, then roll the dough around the filling to form a cylindrical shape. Twist the cylinder into a spiral shape and position it on an ungreased baking sheet. Repeat this process to create seven more burek, stacking the finished coils together to prevent them from unrolling.
5
Brush melted butter over the tops of the burek before placing them in the oven.
6
Bake the burek in the preheated oven until they are golden brown, requiring around 20 to 30 minutes.
