Ingredients
- 1/4 cup margarine
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 stalks celery, chopped
- 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 4 cups water
- 1 (10.5 ounce) can condensed chicken broth
- 4 tablespoons chicken bouillon powder
- 1 potato, peeled and diced
- 1 pound fresh asparagus, trimmed and coarsely chopped
- 3/4 cup half-and-half
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon ground white pepper
Instructions
1
Begin by heating the margarine in a thick-walled cooking vessel over medium heat. Add sliced onion and diced celery, then cook until they become soft and translucent, approximately 4 minutes. Introduce the flour into the mixture, blending it thoroughly to avoid lumps. Continue cooking for about 1 minute, stirring constantly to prevent scorching. Next, combine water, chicken broth, and pre-made chicken soup base in the pot; stir until a uniform consistency is achieved. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil, then add diced potatoes and asparagus spears. Gradually decrease the heat and let it simmer for around 20 minutes.
2
Subsequently, transfer the soup to a food processor or blender in batches and puree it until smooth. Return the blended soup to the original pot.
3
Add half-and-half, soy sauce, and white pepper to the pot. Stir gently until it reaches a simmering point just shy of boiling over. Taste and adjust the seasoning as desired to achieve your preferred flavor profile.
4
Finally, serve the soup hot, garnished with any additional ingredients you may desire.
