Sautéed Cabbage with Apples and Onions
Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons salted butter
  • 1 small head red cabbage, cored and thinly sliced
  • 1 medium Granny Smith apple - peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 small sweet onion, cut into thin wedges
  • 1 teaspoon fennel seeds, crushed
  • kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup red wine
  • 1/2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
Instructions
1
Heat butter in a substantial cooking vessel over an intermediate temperature until it is melted and smooth. Introduce the cabbage, apple, onion, fennel seeds, salt, and pepper into the pan. Cook until the cabbage becomes tender and loses its crispness, approximately 20 minutes.
2
Add a generous amount of red wine to the pan and bring the mixture to a rolling boil while using a wooden spoon to scrape off the flavorful residue that has accumulated at the bottom of the pan. Incorporate vinegar into the dish.
