Sausage Jambalaya
Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine
  • 1 (14 ounce) package Hillshire FarmĀ® Smoked Sausage
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, seeded, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, seeded, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1/2 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 pinch Salt to taste
  • 1/2 pound large raw shrimp, peeled, deveined
  • 6 cups hot cooked long grain white rice
Instructions
1
Heat a large cooking vessel over high heat, adding a generous amount of butter until it starts to melt. Introduce the sausage, onion, bell peppers, and garlic into the pan, stirring occasionally to prevent burning. Allow these ingredients to soften and the sausage to develop a light brown hue, approximately 5 minutes have passed.
2
Add a burst of flavor by incorporating the tomatoes, hot pepper sauce, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and salt into the pan. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil before adding the shrimp. Cook until the shrimp have transformed into a vibrant pink color on the outside and the meat has turned opaque, approximately 3 minutes have elapsed.
3
Combine the hot rice gently into the pan, stirring with care to prevent lumps from forming. Allow the rice to heat through completely, taking around 3 to 5 minutes to achieve the desired consistency.
