Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound Italian sausage links
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 cup onion, chopped
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- 1 (14 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon white sugar
- 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
- 1 (1 pound) package fresh gnocchi
- chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley, for garnish
- grated Romano or Parmesan cheese
Instructions
1
Preheat the cooking surface by heating 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
2
Add sausages to the skillet and cook until they develop a brown color and become firm, approximately 10 minutes.
3
Cut the cooked sausages into smaller pieces of about half an inch in size, then return them to the skillet.
4
Continue cooking the sausages until they are no longer pink, and then remove them from heat.
5
Transfer the cooked sausage slices to a plate lined with paper towels for easy disposal.
6
Simultaneously, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat.
7
Add an onion to the saucepan and cook until it becomes soft and turns translucent, taking about 5 minutes.
8
Introduce garlic into the saucepan and cook until it softens, approximately 2 minutes.
9
Add Italian seasoning to the saucepan and stir in crushed tomatoes, water, salt, sugar, and the remaining 1 tablespoon of Italian seasoning.
10
Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer, then reduce heat to medium-low and cover it with a lid.
11
Allow the sauce to cook for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
12
Prepare another pot of water by bringing it to a boil.
13
Add salt and then gently add the gnocchi to the boiling water.
14
Cook the gnocchi for 2-3 minutes, or until they float to the surface.
15
Drain the cooked gnocchi and set it aside.
16
Rewarm the Italian sausage slices by stirring them into the sauce.
17
Combine the cooked gnocchi with the warmed sauce and sprinkle it with chopped parsley and grated Romano cheese.
18
Serve the pasta dish hot, garnished with additional parsley if desired.
