Ingredients
- cooking spray
- 1 pound pork sausage
- 6 (1 ounce) slices bread, cubed
- 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
- 2 cups milk
- 6 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground dry mustard
Instructions
1
Collect and prepare all necessary ingredients beforehand.
2
Spray a 7x11-inch baking dish with non-stick cooking spray and set it aside for later use.
3
Heat a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat on your stovetop. Cook and stir the sausage in the hot skillet until it reaches a nice brown color and crumbly texture, taking around 5 to 7 minutes. Remove the cooked sausage from the skillet with a slotted spoon and drain off any excess fat.
4
Arrange layers of bread cubes, cooked sausage, and cheese in the prepared baking dish. In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, salt, and mustard until well combined.
5
Pour the milk-egg mixture over the bread mixture in the baking dish. Cover it with a lid or plastic wrap and refrigerate for 8 hours to overnight.
6
Once the oven is preheated to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), let the casserole sit at room temperature for at least 30 minutes before baking in it.
7
Bake the casserole in the preheated oven until a knife inserted into its center comes out clean, requiring around 50 to 60 minutes. Remove the casserole from the oven and let it stand for 10 minutes before serving.
8
Serve and enjoy your delicious dish!
