Sausage and Grits Casserole
Ingredients
  • 1 pound bulk pork sausage
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 1 cup quick-cooking grits
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed cream of celery soup
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to a high temperature of 375 degrees Fahrenheit (or 190 degrees Celsius).
2
Next, take a 2-quart casserole dish and apply butter to it thoroughly.
3
In the meantime, heat a large skillet over medium heat; cook the sausage in it until completely browned, taking around 5 to 7 minutes. Add the onion, celery, and green pepper; cook and stir until they are tender, approximately 5 minutes more.
4
Transfer the cooked sausage mixture to a prepared casserole dish.
5
In another saucepan, combine the grits, water, and salt; bring to a boil. Then reduce heat to medium-low and cover the saucepan; let it simmer until the grits are tender, which should take about 30 minutes.
6
Mix the cooked grits with the sausage mixture in the casserole dish; stir well to create an even layer.
7
Pour a soup over the mixture in an even layer; make sure it's evenly distributed.
8
Sprinkle Cheddar cheese over the soup in an even layer.
9
Finally, bake the dish in your preheated oven until the cheese has melted, taking around 30 minutes.
