Sarah's Taco-Style Burgers
Ingredients
  • 1 onion, divided
  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • 4 teaspoons taco seasoning, divided
  • 1 1/4 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 (8 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup salsa
  • 4 hamburger buns
Instructions
1
Prepare the necessary ingredients by mincing a sufficient amount of onion to reach 1/4 cup, then set the remaining onion aside for later use.
2
Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat and allow it to melt, stirring occasionally. Add the minced onion you prepared earlier and 1 teaspoon of taco seasoning. Continue cooking until the onion becomes translucent and fragrant, which should take around 5 minutes.
3
Transfer the cooked onion to a medium-sized bowl and mix it with ground beef, 2 teaspoons of taco seasoning, and garlic powder. Combine the ingredients thoroughly to form 4 hamburger patties with a uniform shape.
4
Heat tomato sauce in a large skillet over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally. Add salsa and the remaining 1 teaspoon of taco seasoning to the sauce mixture. Stir everything together until it's well combined.
5
Slice the remaining onion into thin, uniform slices using a mandolin. Add these sliced onions to the tomato sauce mixture. Then, add the hamburger patties you prepared earlier and cook them in the sauce until they reach an internal temperature of 170 degrees F (76 degrees C), flipping them over every 5 minutes or so.
6
If desired, toast the hamburger buns to give them a crispy texture. Assemble the burgers by placing the cooked patties on top of toasted buns, followed by a generous amount of sauce and any other desired toppings.
