Root Beer Braised Pulled Pork in the Slow Cooker
Ingredients
  • 1 (3 1/2) pound boneless pork shoulder
  • 8 fluid ounces root beer
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
Instructions
1
First, pat the pork shoulder dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture. Next, place the dried pork in a slow cooker and pour root beer over it to create a flavorful base.
2
Combine the ingredients of brown sugar, cumin, paprika, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and oregano in a small bowl. Mix them together until they form a uniform blend.
3
Sprinkle the blended mixture evenly over the pork shoulder, making sure to cover every surface thoroughly. Gently rub the spices into the meat to ensure an even coating.
4
Place the slow cooker on Low for 5 hours. After this initial period, switch it to High and continue cooking until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork. This may take an additional 3 hours.
5
Once the pork is cooked, carefully remove it from the slow cooker and use two forks to shred the meat into bite-sized pieces. Finally, drizzle some of the remaining liquid from the slow cooker over the shredded pork to keep it moist.
