Quick Swiss Steak with Gravy
Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 pounds cube steaks, pounded thin and cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 (14.5 ounce) cans stewed tomatoes
  • 1 pound mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 (1.2 ounce) package brown gravy mix
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 (12 ounce) package egg noodles
Instructions
1
Preheat your cooking vessel by heating oil in a Dutch oven over medium heat.
2
Next, take the steak strips and coat them evenly with flour; make sure to remove any excess powder.
3
To cook the steak, divide it into batches and fry each portion in hot oil until it develops a rich brown color.
4
Transfer the cooked steak to a warm serving platter.
5
Return the browned steak to the Dutch oven, then combine it with stewed tomatoes, sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, a gravy mix packet, salt, and pepper.
6
Stir the mixture well and bring it to a rolling boil; subsequently, lower the heat and let it simmer for 30 to 45 minutes.
7
About 20 minutes before the steak is fully cooked, fill a large container with water and bring it to a boil.
8
Add the egg noodles to the boiling water and cook them until they reach the desired level of doneness, approximately 8 to 10 minutes; drain the noodles.
9
Finally, serve the Swiss steak over a bed of cooked egg noodles.
