Ingredients

- 1 cup distilled white vinegar
- 1/2 onion, diced
- 1 head cabbage, cored and shredded
- 3/4 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/2 teaspoon celery seed
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- ground black pepper to taste

Combine water with vinegar and finely chopped onion in a large cooking vessel over extremely high heat. Add shredded cabbage, salt, ground celery seeds, onion powder, garlic powder, and black pepper to the pot. Pour the remaining vinegar over the top of the ingredients. Cover the pot and bring the mixture to a rolling boil.

Reduce the heat level and let it simmer for 3 minutes.

Uncover the pot and gently stir the cabbage to distribute the ingredients evenly. Cover the pot again and continue cooking, occasionally stirring the mixture, until the cabbage is tender and has wilted, adding an additional 10 to 15 minutes to the cooking time.
