Quick Challah Bread
Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
  • 1 cup margarine, melted
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 3 egg, beaten
  • 4 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 7 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 2 tablespoons poppy seeds
  • 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
Instructions
1
Combine warm water, melted margarine, sugar, and three eggs in a medium-sized bowl using a spoon or whisk to blend the ingredients together.
2
In another large bowl, combine yeast, salt, and seven cups of flour. Gradually incorporate the liquid ingredients into the dry mixture until a cohesive dough forms.
3
Transfer the dough to a surface dusted with flour and knead it using your hands or a rolling pin until the dough becomes smooth and even.
4
Divide the dough into two large portions. Divide each of these portions into three smaller pieces, then shape each piece into a rope approximately 3/4 inch thick. Braid the three ropes together, repeating this process until all the dough is used up.
5
Place the braided dough onto greased cookie sheets, leaving some space between each piece. Brush the tops of the dough with the remaining beaten egg for added flavor and shine. If desired, sprinkle some poppy or sesame seeds onto the dough for extra texture.
6
Allow the shaped dough to rise in a warm, draft-free area until it has doubled in size.
7
Preheat your oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit (165 degrees Celsius) and bake the dough for 20 to 30 minutes, or until it is golden brown.
