Quiche with Crispy Hash Brown Crust
Ingredients
  • 3 cups shredded hash brown potatoes
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted
  • seasoning salt to taste
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup diced cooked ham
  • 1/3 cup finely diced red bell pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to a high temperature of 425 degrees Fahrenheit (220 degrees Celsius).
2
Take hash browns and place them in a medium-sized bowl. Melt 5 tablespoons of butter and pour it over the hash browns, adding a pinch of seasoning salt or garlic powder if you prefer.
3
Add 1 egg to the mixture and thoroughly combine everything until it forms a cohesive mass. Press this mixture firmly onto the bottom and sides of a 9-inch spring form pan or pie dish.
4
Bake the potato mixture in your preheated oven until it reaches a golden brown and crispy exterior, taking around 25 to 30 minutes.
5
While the potato mixture is baking, melt the remaining tablespoon of butter in a medium-sized skillet over high heat. Add diced ham, sliced pepper, and chopped green onion; cook and stir until the bell pepper becomes slightly tender, approximately 4 minutes.
6
Remove the skillet from heat once the vegetables are softened. This will be used as a base for the next layer.
7
When your potato mixture is ready, spread the ham and pepper mixture evenly over the bottom of the pan. Sprinkle cheese uniformly on top.
8
Take 5 eggs and whisk them in a medium-sized bowl, adding salt and pepper to taste. Mix everything until it's well combined and pour the egg mixture evenly over the ham and cheese.
9
Reduce your oven temperature to a moderate heat of 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
10
Bake the quiche in your preheated oven until the filling is puffed and lightly browned around the edges, taking approximately 35 minutes.
