Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups orange juice without pulp
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 3 whole pears, peeled and cored
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Instructions
1
Combine the orange juice, brown sugar, white sugar, and vanilla extract in a large saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugars have dissolved completely, creating a smooth syrup.
2
Introduce sliced pears into the saucepan and cover it with a lid. Allow the pears to cook in the syrup for 1 hour and 15 minutes, periodically spooning some of the sauce over them to coat evenly. During this time, gently turn the pears over twice to ensure even cooking.
3
Once the pears have finished cooking, transfer them to individual serving dishes.
4
Continue to cook the syrup in the saucepan, stirring constantly and patiently until it has thickened significantly, approximately 15 more minutes.
5
During this time, stir the syrup frequently to prevent it from burning or sticking to the bottom of the pan.
6
Once the syrup has thickened, stir in the walnuts and let them infuse into the sauce for a few minutes.
7
Finally, pour the rich syrup over the cooked pears in their individual serving dishes to serve.
