Pizza Pot Pie Bites
Ingredients
  • cooking spray
  • 1 pound Italian sausage links, casings removed
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1/2 cup sliced fresh mushrooms, or more to taste
  • 2 (8 ounce) cans pizza sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1 (8 ounce) package refrigerated crescent roll dough (such as Pillsbury®)
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to a high temperature of 375 degrees Fahrenheit (or 190 degrees Celsius, if you prefer metric).
2
Next, take a moment to prepare your ramekins by coating their inner surfaces with a thin layer of grease. This will prevent the sausage mixture from sticking to them during cooking.
3
Now, heat a large skillet over high heat and add the sausage. Cook the sausage constantly, stirring it frequently, until it reaches a browned and crumbly state, which should take anywhere from 5 to 10 minutes. Remove the cooked sausage from the skillet and discard any excess grease.
4
Add sliced onions, green bell peppers, and mushrooms to the hot skillet. Stir them constantly until they have softened and become tender, which should take around 2 to 3 minutes. Pour in a store-bought or homemade pizza sauce and let it simmer for several minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
5
Stir 1/4 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese into the cooked sausage mixture. This will help bind all the flavors together.
6
Now, it's time to assemble your individual pot pies. Spoon 1/4 of the sausage mixture into each prepared ramekin, followed by a layer of 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese on top.
7
Take the crescent dough and roll it out into a large sheet. Cut this sheet of dough into 4 equal pieces, making sure they are all roughly the same size.
8
Cover each ramekin with a piece of crescent dough, pressing it firmly around the edges to seal in the sausage mixture. Arrange your pot pies on a baking sheet, leaving some space between each one.
9
Finally, bake the pot pies in your preheated oven until the dough is a light golden brown color, which should take around 10 to 12 minutes. Remove the pot pies from the oven and let them cool for 10 minutes before serving.
