Perfect Homemade Marinara
Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 sweet onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (8 ounce) package fresh mushrooms, chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 cup fresh flat-leaf parsley, torn
  • 2 tablespoons oregano
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • ground black pepper to taste
  • 1 (28 ounce) can tomato sauce
Instructions
1
Preheat your stove by heating olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Allow the oil to warm up, then add sliced onion and minced garlic to the saucepan. Continue cooking and stirring these ingredients until they are fragrant, approximately 2 minutes have passed.
2
Next, add sliced mushrooms, diced red bell pepper, and chopped parsley to the saucepan. Keep cooking and stirring these ingredients until they are slightly tender, around 2 minutes have passed.
3
Now, add a blend of dried herbs including oregano, sugar, basil, rosemary, sage, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper to the saucepan. Stir these ingredients together until they are well combined, also taking about 2 minutes.
4
At this point, stir in a tomato sauce into the seasoned onion-mushroom mixture. Allow the flavors to meld together over low heat for about 30 minutes, at which point they should be fully combined.
5
Transfer half of the sauce to a blender and blend until it reaches a smooth consistency. Then, return this blended sauce back into the original saucepan with the remaining sauce. Stir everything together to combine.
