Penne Vodka with Prosciutto and Basil
Ingredients
  • 1 (16 ounce) package dry penne pasta
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1/8 pound prosciutto, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 (16 ounce) cans whole peeled tomatoes
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup vodka
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh basil leaves
  • salt to taste
Instructions
1
Collect all necessary ingredients beforehand.
2
Bring a substantial amount of salted water to its boiling point in a large pot. Add penne pasta and cook in the boiling water, stirring periodically, until it reaches a tender yet still slightly firm texture, approximately 11 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
3
Heat a generous amount of olive oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Sauté sliced prosciutto, minced garlic, and a pinch of red pepper flakes in hot oil for 1 minute.
4
Introduce diced tomatoes into the skillet and cook for an additional 3 minutes, allowing them to soften slightly.
5
Combine heavy cream and vodka in the skillet, then bring the mixture to a simmer. Allow the sauce to thicken, approximately 15 minutes.
6
Stir grated Parmesan cheese and chopped fresh basil into the sauce until well combined. Add a pinch of salt to taste.
7
Gradually add cooked penne pasta to the skillet, tossing everything together until the pasta is evenly coated with the sauce.
