Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 4 whole cloves
- 3 black cardamom seeds
- 6 whole black peppercorns
- 2 (3 inch) cinnamon sticks
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 cup frozen green peas, thawed
- 2 cups uncooked basmati rice, rinsed and drained
- 4 cups water
- salt to taste
Instructions
1
Begin by warming the oil in a large, deep pan over a very low flame. Introduce the cloves, cardamom seeds, peppercorns and cinnamon sticks into the pan, allowing them to cook for a short while to release their fragrant essence. Combine the garlic powder and 2 tablespoons of water in a small bowl, stirring until they form a smooth paste; then add this mixture to the pan with the spices.

Next, incorporate the green peas into the pan, cover it and let them cook for approximately 5 minutes.
3
Subsequently, add the remaining 4 cups of water and rice to the pan. Sprinkle a small amount of salt over the top. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil, then cover it and let it cook for about 15 minutes, until the rice is tender and all the water has been absorbed. Finally, sample the dish and make any necessary adjustments to the seasoning before presenting it.
