Continue cooking the pasta uncovered, occasionally stirring it gently, until it reaches a tender yet still slightly firm texture, which should take around 8 to 10 minutes. Remove the pasta from the water and transfer it to a large serving container.

In a separate pan, heat a moderate amount of oil over low-medium heat. Introduce the onion into the pan and cook, stirring occasionally, until it becomes soft and translucent, taking about 3 minutes. Combine the cooked onion with pesto, salt, and pepper in the pan; stir until everything is warmed through and well combined.

Add the pesto mixture to the cooked pasta in the serving container. Then, stir in grated cheese and thoroughly coat the pasta with the sauce.
