Paprika Chicken with Creamy Sauce
Ingredients
  • 1 (4 pound) whole chicken, cut into pieces
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 2 1/2 cups hot water
  • 2 onions, peeled and sliced into rings
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup milk
Instructions
1
Combine the dry ingredients in a shallow dish or bowl, which includes 1/2 cup of flour, seasoned salt, thyme, and ground black pepper. Mix these ingredients well; coat chicken pieces in this mixture and then fry them in shortening in a large skillet until they are lightly browned on all sides.
2
Add some paprika and garlic salt over the chicken, then pour in hot water to the skillet. Simmer the mixture for 30 minutes.
3
Place onion rings on top of the chicken pieces and continue to simmer for another 30 minutes. Remove the chicken, with onions on top, to a serving platter and set it aside.
4
In a small bowl, whisk together 2 tablespoons of flour with milk. Then add this mixture to the liquid in the skillet. Cook, stirring constantly, until it thickens. Pour the thickened mixture over the chicken and serve with hot cooked white rice or egg noodles, if desired.
