Pan-Fried Crispy Tofu
Ingredients
  • 1 (12 ounce) package extra-firm tofu
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
1
Press the tofu firmly between two clean plates, applying pressure to remove excess moisture. Place a heavy object weighing 3-5 pounds on top of the tofu for about 20 minutes.
2
Cut the pressed tofu into small, uniform cubes, approximately 1 inch by 2 inches in size.
3
Sprinkle a pinch of salt over one side of the tofu, then flip it over and sprinkle the other side with an equal amount.
4
Heat a generous amount of oil in a large, deep skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
5
To verify the oil's readiness, carefully insert a chopstick or wooden spoon into it; if it creates bubbles, the oil is ready.
6
If the oil starts to smoke excessively, reduce the heat immediately.
7
Carefully add 5-8 pieces of tofu at a time to the hot oil using metal tongs, taking great care not to splash any oil.
8
Fry the tofu until it turns a golden brown color, taking about 3-4 minutes per batch.
9
Transfer the fried tofu to a plate lined with multiple paper towels, allowing it to cool slightly before serving.
