Palmer House Brownie
Ingredients
  • 1 pound butter
  • 4 (3.5 ounce bars) semisweet chocolate
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 8 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 (8 ounce) packages crushed walnuts
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup apricot preserves
  • 1 teaspoon unflavored gelatin
Instructions
1
Preheat your oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit, or 150 degrees Celsius.
2
Next, take a 9x12-inch baking sheet and give it a light coating of grease to prevent sticking.
3
Make the brownie mixture: Place butter and chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over simmering water, stirring occasionally to avoid burning. Continue stirring until the chocolate has melted and reached a smooth consistency, about 5 minutes.
4
Meanwhile, combine granulated sugar and all-purpose flour in a large mixing bowl. Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until they are fully incorporated and a smooth dough forms.
5
Mix in eggs one at a time, followed by a few drops of vanilla extract to enhance the flavor. Pour the batter onto the prepared baking sheet.
6
Add a handful of chopped walnuts on top, gently pressing them into the batter to create a textured surface.
7
Bake the brownies in your preheated oven for 30-40 minutes, or until they start to turn golden brown and rise slightly above the baking sheet.
8
Make a sweet glaze: Combine water, preserves, and unflavored gelatin in a saucepan over high heat. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally to prevent scorching. Continue cooking until the glaze thickens and reaches a syrupy consistency, about 2 minutes.
9
Allow the brownies to cool for 30 minutes before spreading a thin layer of glaze over them using a pastry brush.
