Ingredients
- 1 cup plain yogurt
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 2 pounds round steak, cut into pieces
- 3/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
- 1 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 bunch fresh cilantro, for garnish
- 4 fresh green chilies, for garnish
Instructions
1
Combine yogurt, salt, red pepper flakes, ginger garlic paste, cumin, cloves, and turmeric in a medium-sized mixing container. Blend the ingredients together until they are well combined. Add beef to the mixture and ensure it is evenly coated with the spice blend. Allow the mixture to sit for 15 minutes.
2
Heat oil in a large, heavy-duty cooking vessel over medium-high heat. Sear an onion until it turns golden brown. Remove 1 tablespoon of the fried onion and set it aside for garnish purposes. Decrease the heat to low. Place meat in the skillet, cover it, and cook until it becomes tender, approximately 25 minutes. Check on the meat every 10 minutes to prevent drying out and add water if necessary.
3
Add a squeeze of lemon juice to the skillet and continue to simmer for 10 minutes.
4
Finish the dish by garnishing it with cilantro, green chiles, and the reserved fried onion.
