Oven-Baked Ham with Cloves and Brown Sugar
Ingredients
  • 1 (12 pound) bone-in ham, rump portion
  • 1/2 cup whole cloves
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 4 cups water, or as needed
Instructions
1
To prepare the oven, set it to a high temperature of 350 degrees Fahrenheit (or 175 degrees Celsius). Next, position the ham in a spacious roasting dish; insert whole cloves into its surface at regular 1- to 2-inch intervals.
2
Following that, cover the ham's top with a thick layer of brown sugar.
3
Make sure to have enough water at hand to fill the bottom of the roasting pan, leaving about 1 inch of space; seal the pan tightly with aluminum foil to prevent moisture loss.
4
Place the ham in the preheated oven and bake for 4.5 to 5 hours, or until it reaches a minimum internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit (measured with an instant-read thermometer carefully inserted into the center, avoiding contact with the bone).
5
Once cooked, let the ham rest for approximately 20 minutes before slicing and serving.
