Oven-Baked Beer Can Chicken
Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons seasoned salt
  • 2 tablespoons onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 1 (12 fluid ounce) can light-flavored beer (such as Bud Light®)
  • 1 (3 pound) whole chicken
  • 4 green onions, sliced
  • 4 green onions, cut in half crosswise
  • 1 (12 fluid ounce) can light-flavored beer (such as Bud Light®)
Instructions
1
Gather all the necessary ingredients and prepare your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2
Combine garlic powder, seasoned salt, onion powder, dried oregano, salt, and pepper in a small bowl; set it aside for later use.
3
Pour 1/3 of one can of beer into the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish, making sure to cover the entire surface. Place an open beer can in the center of the baking dish.
4
Rinse the chicken under cold running water, discarding any unwanted parts such as giblets and neck. Pat dry the chicken thoroughly to prevent excess moisture.
5
Position the whole chicken over the open beer can with its legs facing downwards, ensuring they are securely positioned.
6
Using a paring knife, carefully cut small slits on each side of the chicken breasts. Gently press the tip of each wing into the slit to promote even cooking.
7
Sprinkle the reserved seasoning mixture evenly over the entire chicken, using your discretion as to how much is needed.
8
Pat green onion slices evenly onto the chicken; it's okay if some fall off during the process. Press green onion halves into the top cavity of the chicken, making sure they are securely in place.
9
Open the second beer can and pour 1/2 of it into the pan, reserving the remaining beer for later use.
10
Place the chicken in the preheated oven and bake for 45 minutes. Pour the remaining beer into the pan under the chicken and continue baking until the chicken is no longer pink at the bone and the juices run clear, approximately 30 additional minutes. Use an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the thigh, near the bone to check for doneness; it should read 180 degrees F (82 degrees C).
11
Remove the chicken from the oven and discard the beer can. Cover the chicken with a doubled sheet of aluminum foil.
12
Let the chicken rest in a warm area for 10 minutes before slicing.
