Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1/4 onion, chopped
- 1 (15 ounce) can ranch-style beans
- 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes
- 1 (10 ounce) can diced tomatoes with green chile peppers
- 1/2 (1.25 ounce) package spicy chili seasoning mix
- 2 cups self-rising flour
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 cups vegetable oil for frying, or as needed
Instructions
1
Preheat the oven to a high temperature, approximately 200 degrees Fahrenheit or 95 degrees Celsius.
2
In a large cooking vessel, heat oil over an intermediate flame until ground beef and onion are nicely browned and crumbly, taking around 10 minutes to achieve this; discard any excess fat that accumulates.
3
Add beans, diced tomatoes, and green chilies to the mixture; stir in a specific blend of spices to enhance flavor. Bring the entire concoction to a rolling boil before gradually reducing heat to a low simmer, allowing it to thicken over the course of 10 minutes. Continue this process as you move on to the next step.
4
In a separate bowl, combine a dry ingredient and a liquid substance; be prepared for the mixture to become quite sticky. Using your hands, shape about one-quarter cup of dough into a circular form on a surface dusted with flour. Repeat this process until all the remaining dough has been utilized.
5
In a deep skillet, heat oil to an extremely high temperature, approximately 400 degrees Fahrenheit or 205 degrees Celsius.
6
Fry one circular piece of dough until it is golden brown, taking around three minutes on each side to achieve this. As the bread cooks, it will expand in size; remove it from the oil with a paper towel and place it on a baking sheet. Transfer the fried bread to the oven to maintain its warmth while frying the remaining dough pieces.
7
Place a portion of fried bread on top of the ground beef mixture; serve immediately.
